Gilbert Rotarians have returned from our trip to Window Rock, AZ, and Thoreau, NM, where we immersed ourselves in the Navajo culture.  The purpose was to build a team of Rotarians from Gilbert and Sun Lakes, Rotary Foundation leadership, DigDeepH2O, St. Bonaventure Indian School and Mission and tribal leaders.  There are no more warm and friendly people on earth than the Navajo people we met.  As Americans (and war heroes in some instances), the Navajo live in water poverty due to arid climate, severe elevation changes and impenetrable subsoil conditions.  Our team came together to study sanitation and hygiene issues involved in bringing running water into Navajo homes.  We will use that information to supplement our global grant request to fund  17-18 in-home water systems for Navajo families.  Many thanks to our hosts and fellow team members for sharing an experience we will never forget.
