How is programming different from creating a website?
- Web development specifically refers to the process of putting words and pictures together to display a web page. If it contains only words and pictures, the site is called "static" as the pages don't change depending on who is looking at them.
- Programming, application development, and software development all refer to the process that cause a computer to do some work, such as login, search for an item, buy something, convert miles to kilometers, or display data stored in a database. A computer program can get its input and output from many different places, including a web page: thus many websites also have a programmed or active component and are called "dynamic" websites.
- Graphic design refers to the skills and tools required to create new and complex pictures for a website or print media. Some websites also contain interactive pictures that are called "flash": not all graphic designers can create flash documents.
