Gilbert Rotary welcomed speaker Arvell Craig to the club this morning to hear about growth and marketing. Arvell is originally from Detroit, Michigan and now lives in Scottsdale Arizona. His topic for us was “How to Get Unstuck with Clarifying Questions.
How has his past brought him to where he is today? It instilled in him a love of God and a love of learning. Discovering God’s love gave
him a moral foundation and helped him realize his potential and purpose and started him on the road of education. He has been blessed as well by a wife and a daughter -the who and why for his What.
After education at Oral Roberts University he was ordained a pastor. He also worked, hustled and studied hard for his Master’s Degrees. Out in the world he began to see himself, as many of us do, burned out, working too hard and that soon turns into stopping, settling and becoming cynical.
Then you’re stuck. You find yourself no longer asking questions of yourself…what am I here for or what do I want?
He has authored several books, one being the basis for his topic, presented today.
This book enables anyone to ask themselves 18 questions to lead them back to their purpose and help re-examine that we all value.
The 4 clarifying questions:
FOUR TYPES OF CLARIFYING QUESTIONS:
- WHAT – concerns wants, desires, dreams, goals
- WHY – connect with your “why”; rehearse your “why”; “if your why doesn’t make you cry, it’s not big enough.”
- HOW – how is it going to happen – route, routine, strength, measure. It’s your means towards reaching your goals…how to reach your WHAT
- WHO – will coach you, challenge you, and hold you accountable; share your dreams with the people in your life.
This quest is all foundational, there is no magic involved. He urged members to stay curious and always stay hungry.
